Birdflu in Lagos.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday announced that there has been unusual high mortality in two poultry farms and live bird markets in Kano and Lagos States.

It said samples forwarded to the National Veterinary Research Institute tested positive for H5 strain of Avian Influenza Virus, otherwise known as bird flu, adding that confirmatory samples were sent to the International Reference Laboratory in Padova, Italy, for further characterisation.

Avian influenza, known informally as Avian flu or bird flu, refers to influenza caused by viruses adapted to birds.
Influenza, commonly known as ‘flu’ is an infectious disease caused by the influenza virus.
The ministry, in a statement, noted that it had taken some measures in the affected sites to contain the reported outbreaks.
According to the FMARD, it had quarantined the infected premises and placed restriction of movement of poultry and poultry products into and out of areas around infected premises.
It said, “All state directors of veterinary services and the Federal Capital Territory, Poultry Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders have been informed and advised to be on alert with intensified bio-security measures to avert possible spread of the disease to other states.
“The World Organisation for Animal Health and Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resource and development partners have been appropriately notified in compliance with our statutory international obligations.”
It added that it had ensured immediate reactivation of all animal health component of the Emergency Preparedness Plan on bird flu for Nigeria, adding that the conduct of surveillance activities around infected areas to determine the level of spread of the disease was being undertaken.
FMARD said, “All stakeholders in the poultry industry are urged to enhance hygienic practices (bio-security measures) which include, but not limited to, regular disinfection, proper disposal of dead carcasses and poultry products and timely reporting of mortalities in poultry and other bird species to veterinary authorities.
“We wish to assure the public that, given our experiences in handling previous outbreaks and with your full cooperation in the implementation of containment measures, we are determined to contain this disease again within a short time. We will keep you informed as events unfold.”

Police arrest 2 rams for attacking woman in Ekiti

A 65 years old woman popularly called ‘Iya Oyo’ has been hospitalized having been attacked by two rams in Ado Ekiti, a development that led to the arrest of the rams by the police. The strange rams are said to be owned by a manager of a filling station at Okesa area of the state capital

The embattled woman who was accompanied by his son at the time of attack on Monday was about going to a bank to withdraw some money when she was attacked by the rams.On sighting the woman ,the rams were said to have allegedly gone wild and gored her on the right thigh.

The woman was eventually rushed to Dr. Sico Trado Medical Bone Clinic, Ereguru, Ado Ekiti by some good samaritans

Speaking with newsmen at the hospital, Iya Oyo disclosed that shortly after she was hit by the rams she fell down and ‘passed out’ immediately only to find herself at the clinic after coming back to life.

Her words,

“On the fateful day, I was going to the Union Bank with my son. We were walking on the walkway and we saw the rams in front of us but not knowing what was on their mind.

“But immediately they sighted us coming closer to them, one of the rams rushed towards me and hit me several times with its horns. “Immediately, I fell down. But as I was struggling to get up, the second ram joined the first to attack me, thank God that some people came to my rescue and saved me from untimely death in the hands of these “mad rams.”

In 2012 man was banned from contacting ex-partner with restraining order But just five days later he posted snide comment under her profile pictureThe comment said: 'Showing them what you've got I see, babe'He was jailed after trial in Palma, Majorca and lost appeal against sentence.

A man was thrown into jail in Spain for nine months after leaving a sarcastic comment under his ex-girlfriend's Facebook profile picture.
In October 2012 the man, who has not been named, was banned from contacting his former partner by any means after a specialized Domestic Violence court in Palma, Majorca passed a protection order.
But just five days later the hopeless individual posted a mocking comment under her profile picture which read: 'Showing them what you've got I see, babe.'

After reading the comment, 'a la vete a enseñarlo guapa’ in Spanish, the woman alerted the authorities and the ex-boyfriend was once again brought before a court in Palma.
He was charged with breaching the restraining order and sentenced to nine months behind bars.

He appealed his conviction, citing that the court could not prove who sent the Facebook message or that he had actually breached the order.

But the court in Palma said the man was 'completely conscious' of the fact his Facebook message 'was an infringement of the restraining order'.

It is not the first time that Facebook comments have landed someone behind bars.
In 2013, a Texas teenager was jailed after making an offhand comment on Facebook about a video game he had been playing.
Justin Carter was 18 when he and a friend got into an argument with someone over a multiple player online video game, leading the teenager to post a comment he now regrets.

He spent nearly six months in prison after saying: 'I'm going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still beating hearts' only two months after the Sandy Hook school massacre.
Although the teenager, who turned 19 while in prison, added 'lol' (laughing out loud) and 'jk' (just kidding) to his post, a woman from Canada who saw it reported Justin to police after finding out that he lived near an elementary school.

Cartoon dancing PENIS sex education clip shown on children's TV angers parents in Sweden

The short film also features animated vaginas dancing to music and was aimed at children aged three to six

This bizarre video showing dancing cartoon penises and vaginas has sparked a sex education storm online.
The surreal animation backed with music was shown on a children's program in Sweden to explain about the sexual organs.
But it has since gone global after it was given an adults only rating on YouTube.
The minute-long clip – called Snoppen och Snippan – was shown on Swedish children's programme Bacillakuten last week.
The name of the music video comes from the child-friendly words for penis and vagina: "snipp" and "snopp".
The video is designed to introduce children aged three to six the differences between boys and girls and help them understand the human body.

Some of the video's lyrics translate as: "Here comes the penis at full pace" and "the vagina is cool, you better believe it, even on an old lady. It just sits there so elegantly".
After storm of criticism on Facebook, YouTube re-classified the video as "adult rated", stating it "may be inappropriate for some users" and asking viewers to confirm they were over 18 before watching.
It was only after intervention from TV channel SVT that YouTube agreed the clip was not explicit or aimed at adults and reclassified it.
The cartoon notched up more than one million views within a day of being uploaded.
Kajsa Peters, project manager for Bacillakuten, said: "Bacillakuten's purpose is to teach children about the body and its functions.
"We hope that the song will help in this learning. The song is part of playful learning, which we believe is the best way to reach kids."

Nigerian Prostitutes To Give Free Sex If Buhari Wins

Commercial sex workers in the country under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes, NANP, have thrown their weight behind the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
NANP said it would declare a-three day free sex across the country if president Jonathan eventually loses the seat to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of APC.

Recall that the group had in 2013 declared one-week free sex after the Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso to lift the AFCON trophy after almost 20 years.

A statement signed by the group’s General Secretary, Jessica Elvis noted that NANP was not happy with Jonathan’s government over the way commercial sex workers were being treated in the country since he assumed office as the first citizen.

It described Jonathan’s government as the worst in the history of Nigeria, saying that it recorded the lowest income during his tenure.

The statement also quoted Elvis as saying that several approaches to the presidency to legalize prostitution were turned down.

DAILY POST recalls that a female prostitute, Patoo Abraham last year led protests in Lagos to seek a better place for prostitutes in Nigeria.

Abraham who heads the Nigerian chapter of African Sex Workers Alliance (ASWA) and the Women of Power Initiative (WOPI), led the protests with demonstrators wearing T-shirts screaming “Sex work is work, we need our rights”.
“We are tired of dying in silence; we want to be able to practice our profession with pride like every other person. We want an end to name-calling and stigmatisation. We are sex workers and not asawo [a derogatory Yoruba name for prostitutes]”, She told Aljazeera.

“Sex work is normal work and there are sex workers everywhere under one form of disguise or the other. The government should stop criminalising our work”, she further said.

Backing Abraham’s point, Elvis said for failing to legalize prostitution, the group would not support Jonathan for a second term.

“We sent a proposal to the government in March 2, 2012, almost a year after Jonathan was fully elected as president of Nigeria on the need to legalize prostitution. That was when our late president, Micah Ejoyo was alive, but the presidency rather declared war on us by arresting some members on the street of Abuja.

“Most of them are students who are using the job to pursue their education. We all cannot work in Aso Rock, NNPC or Shell. We don’t rob people. We are using our endowment to fend for ourselves. We deserve to be respected. Enough of this hypocrisy because even Jonathan and his team are not saints.”

Speaking further, the statement as obtained by DAILY POST on Friday enjoined all members of the association to come out en mass come February 14 to vote out Jonathan from Aso Rock.

“We are calling on all our members and every Nigerian in particular to join the march. No to Jonathan! Because under Jonathan’s government, we lost over 400 members in the north to the Boko Haram insurgency and we are not ready to lose anybody again. We would be declaring a three-day free sex if God eventually sends Jonathan out of Aso Rock. You can count on us. We did it before and we can do it again. Enough is enough,” the statement added.

Jodie looked totally relaxed as she reclined on her sun lounger, alternating between topping up her tan, reading and taking selfies.
The brunette wore her hair coiled on top of her head and went for a full face of make-up.
Posting in her hotel bathroom later on in the day, the 36-year-old also snapped a series of pictures in the saucy number before posting them to Instagram.

Jodie Marsh has done a veritable fashion show of swimwear while on holiday in Barbados.
In the last week we've seen her in a different bikini every day but for the last two she's stuck to one brand in particular. Yesterday's metallic two-piece and today's red strappy number are both by Agent Provocateur and are the epitome of sultry beach style.
A bikini like this has slight bondage connotations but if you're not afraid to put it all out there then click the link (right) to buy it now. We do love the scarlet shade and multiple straps and you'll be guaranteed to turn heads as your walk along the surf.
Of course, this high end label comes at a high end price so credit cards at the ready. But if you want to get the look without the buyer's guilt then check out our edit below of raunchy red styles.

She then changing into a patterned sequin two-piece because she was worried about tan lines.
She captioned the image with the words: 'I've changed bikini already as I couldn't cope with the tan lines on that last one :-).'
The day before, Jodie was proudly showing off yet another skimpy swimsuit - this time from high-end lingerie store, Agent Provocateur.

The yellow and silver beachwear highlighted her sculpted frame thanks to its cut-out panels.
Responding to her eager admirers' cries for more, the glamour model kept the images coming, adding increasingly nonsensical captions like 'Love this bikini', 'Love this shot. It feels a bit 70's', 'This feels a bit superhero'.
Jodie accessorised with two layered gold necklaces and set off her features with a slick of bright pink lipstick.
She wore her hair pulled back in a high ponytail as she seductively leaned in for the camera.

Earlier in the day, Jodie was making the most of her last moments in Barbados by sunbathing on the sand.
Two more snaps, seemingly taken in her hotel bathroom, find the TV personality sporting her skimpiest bikini yet, a diamante studded variation comprised of microscopic bottoms and a top half that adequately displayed her already prominent cleavage.
Clearly chuffed, Jodie captioned one of the shots with the simple caption: ‘Love it xxx.’

Meanwhile, the star was caught in the rain on Tuesday and was forced to call it a day at the beach.
There, wearing statement sunglasses with a black and gold two-piece, she was seen taking up her favourite spot on the beach, where she reclined in a sun lounger - proudly displaying her form, yet again.
Awkwardly, it wasn't long before she was rudely interrupted by a sudden downpour - which saw her scurry off to find shelter.
As the first drops of rain fell, the brunette seemed clearly embarrassed by the poor timing - pulling a funny face as she escaped the weather.
Fortunately, she was able to cover up in a crochet-effect body-stocking, but not before she was rendered weather-beaten and windswept.
Unfortunately for Jodie, her leather and suede bag also suffered from the minor storm and deftly put an abrupt end to her tanning session.

Fortunately, she's had plenty of practice over the past few weeks.
Only yesterday she shared a series of fit-spiration snaps on Instagram of her wearing yet another itsy bitsy swimwear look.
And Jodie took the opportunity to explain her personal philosophy about fitness to her fans. The star encouraged girls to focus on being in great shape rather than losing weight or calorie counting.
'Strong is the new skinny. It's not about starving yourselves ladies', she wrote. 'It's about being the best YOU can be. Being fit and strong and healthy.
'Being able to treat yourself and eat cake if you fancy it because you know that a work out will burn it straight off. Be fit and be happy.'
