Innocent Baby Crushed to death over N150 change... Mother badly injured.

A nursing mother was seriously injured and her baby crushed to death on Wednesday, June 15, after they were struck by a commercial bus along Makurdi-Gboko expressway, Benue over N150 change.

According to the child's father, Senator Anuum, his wife had boarded the vehicle with their baby strapped to her back, from the second gate of the Benue State University (BSU) to Coca-Cola junction. When she got to her destination, she gave the bus conductor a N200 note. She was supposed to be given a balance of N150 but the conductor refused.

"The mother and her child, who she carried at her back, were the remaining passengers in the bus. The conductor did not want to give her the change and they drove off, in the process she grabbed the conductor that was already on the moving vehicle, with her baby at the back and she lost balance, fell down and was dragged on the road till the baby fell off from her back, in between the back wheels and was smashed, died instantly and the driver and the conductor drove off,"  Anuum narrated.

The matter has been reported to security agencies but efforts to contact the police public relations officer, ASP Moses Yamu failed. However, a police source said investigation is ongoing to fish out both driver and conductor.

Ogun River “Turns To Dryland” At Kara Market

A part of the popular Ogun River which flows under the Kara Bridge around Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State has suddenly gone dry.

Unidentified green plants are seen on the river while the water body has given way.

The Kara cattle market community under the bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has become a Mecca of some sort with residents of the community and passers-by trooping to see the dried section of the river which once provided water for the Kara cattle and ram market.

 Traffic in bound Lagos slowed down and Road Safety officials tried to make light the gridlock.

Before the unusual incident, the water body once served as means of transportation for canoe owners but residents say they woke up to see the channel blocked on Saturday morning.

Surprisingly, on the other side of the Kara Bridge, the river was seen flowing freely.

Environmentalists have, however, warned that residents keep off the blocked channel for the risks of it opening up unexpectedly and advised relevant authorities find a means of clearing the plants.

Nollywood has lost an icon again exactly nine days after the death of Henrietta Kosoko.A popular Yoruba actor who often features in Odunlade Adekola’s movies, Abdul Lateef Titilopeaka Itakure is dead.He passed away last night after two days of mild Malaria fever.In a press statement released by family memberslast night, the deceased will be laid to his final resting place at his family house in Ile Egbaunta, Agunpopo area of Oyo town.The Islamic burial service will start at 8:00am today.

Our Daily Agege Bread is now expensive..

Chief Simeon Abanulor, the National Chairman, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has said an increase in the price of bread, one of the most popular staple in Nigeria is inevitable if bakers are to remain in business.

Abanulor said this at a news conference in Umuahia on Friday
He said that the cost of raw materials, such as flour and sugar had skyrocketed and that bakers in the country had been operating at a loss.

He added that “we are helpless because the price of raw materials ranging from flour to sugar, wheat and butter, has gone up.

“It is therefore imperative that for us to remain in business, we will have to increase the price of bread.”
The chairman explained that the Association at a meeting with flour producers appealed to them to review the price of flour downward.

“However, they told us that there is nothing they can do because the Federal Government is not giving them foreign exchange and that they source it by themselves at the parallel market.

“They maintained that they cannot sell below their cost price.”

Abanulor then explained why it had been difficult for bakers to produce bread with cassava flour.
According to him, the Federal Government is yet to provide bakers with an improver called Enzyme that will enhance the cassava flour.

He said “you cannot bake cassava bread without an improver, it will not work.
“Our challenge is that we reached an agreement with the Federal Government that they are going to give us an improver.

“There are lots of potential in cassava flour but the problem is that government cannot provide us with improver.” (NAN)

MAN SLAPS WIFE TO DEATH

ONYEKACHI Anele, 36, is prob­ably gnashing his teeth in regret, in the custody of the police at the headquarters of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, of the Imo Police Command, Owerri.

As he ponders over what the future holds for his four-year-old daughter and one-year-old son and the stepson who is at the centre of the fate that has befallen the family, he is equally learning, in a hard and unfortunate way, the meaning of what the bible says: “The devil goes about like a roaring lion seek­ing who it may devour.”

Anele who lived with his family in Obibiezena in Owerri North Lo­cal Government Area, is also wish­ing that he had restrained himself when the devil pushed his wife to stir up anger in him, not long after he returned home from vigil held at Jesus Disciples Fellowship.

Sunday Sun learnt from the Imo Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu that trouble began on June 1, 2016, when Anele’s wife, 32-year-old Chikodi, asked him to give her son from an earlier marriage, N100 to take to school.

Taking up the tale, Anele said: “I got married to my late wife Chikodi Anele over four years ago. She had a son for another man before we got married. We have been living together in peace. We have two children. Our first child, a girl, is four years old while the second child is a boy, who is just one year old.”

He continued: “On May 31, 2016, I went to my church, Jesus Disciples Fellowship, where we had a vigil. I came back around 5: 30 am and started playing Christian music. My wife came to where I was and said that I should give my stepson N100 naira to go to school. I told her that I had no money with me.

“You see, my late wife was hypertensive; she became very an­gry that I did not give my stepson N100. She started to insult me. I got angry and slapped her.

She slapped me in return. I was shocked by her effrontery and slapped her a second time. She fell down and fainted.

“I rushed her to City Hospital, Nekede. On getting there, the doc­tor checked her and confirmed that she was dead. I went to the nearby police station at Umuguma and reported the matter to the police and they arrested me,” he said.

Promptly, the case was trans­ferred from Umuguma Police Station to State Criminal Investiga­tion Department, Owerri, the Imo State capital, where he has been in detention as investigation into the matter was in progress.

The officer-in-charge of the ho­micide section of the SCID, Supol Innocent Obi, further revealed that family members of the deceased had not yet been to the police to know the state of the matter. He stated that Anele had not yet informed them.

In anguish, Anele, told Sun­day Sun: “I love my wife. I had no intention to kill her. It was misunderstanding and annoyance that prompted me to slap her and she died. Up till now, it looks like a dream and a mystery to me.

When Sunday Sun visited the compound where Anele lived with his family before the unfortunate incident happened, his neighbours were still in shock.

One of them, Chukudi Eneka said, “They both loved each other; they were a good family. The devil just caused this thing. Suddenly we heard them quarrelling. The husband slapped the wife and the wife slapped him back. The hus­band then slapped her again. She fell down and fainted. We thought it was a joke. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctor said she was dead. We are shocked over the incident.”

In what appears like a case of Anele being abandoned to his fate, the Deputy Commissioner of Po­lice in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa said that the kinsmen of Anele had not been to see him in the custody of the police, but add­ing that the corpse of the deceased was still in mortuary.
